Questions to Ask Your Atlanta AC Repair Technician During the Next Visit

Your air conditioner is a complicated piece of machinery. In fact, it’s a system that has a lot of requirements, parts and uses a sophisticated aspect of chemistry to achieve cooling in your home.  AC Repair Technician | Anytime HVAC

With all of this, it’s helpful to know what you should ask your AC repair specialist when you get the unit serviced. Knowing what to ask gives you more piece of mind, and lets the person doing the work understand what you care about, ensuring you get the best service possible.

Do My Ducts Need to Be Cleaned?

Your ducts are the channels inside of your walls, attic or crawl spaces that bring air from the blower to your living areas. Ducts are hidden away out of view, which makes them a more difficult part of the air conditioning system to access.

However, just because you can’t see them doesn’t mean they’re not affecting your quality of life. Dust, dirt and bacteria can make their way into these spaces and affect the respiration of you and your family.

If you have:

  • Pets
  • Recent renovation
  • Mold
  • Vents on the floor
  • Or unexplained respiratory issues, asthma or sickness…

…you may want to look into how the duct cleanliness may play a role. Air quality in our homes is often very bad. Contrary to popular belief, the air conditioner doesn’t clean air. It recycles the air in our homes and simply removes the heat. Chemicals, pet dander and dirt tracked into the house become the atmosphere we breathe every day.

Ask your AC repair technician about an air purifier, and how it can work in tandem with the AC unit.

You can also have filters installed in the duct vents.

How Well Is My Compressor Working?

The compressor is the pump of the entire air conditioner. Not only does it ready the refrigerant for getting rid of your home’s heat (through compression) it pumps that refrigerant through the whole system.

While it’s the most expensive part, it’s also the part that ensures the operation of the machine. Without any issues, the compressor can last between 8-15 years, depending on use, conditions and maintenance. Some compressors are fully sealed and are never opened. Some are partially sealed, and others completely open and can be inspected.

Is My Refrigerant Clean and Working Properly?

If the pump is the AC system’s heart, this is the blood. Instead of moving oxygen around the machine, it moves heat – onboarding heat inside your home, and getting rid of it in the condenser outside your home.

Your refrigerant needs to be at the right level, the right pressure depending on where it is in the lines, and it needs to be clean.

Dirty refrigerant will not only take a toll on efficiency, but hurt your equipment – including the compressor. Dirty refrigerant can also be a sign that something is wrong with the compressor itself, or with another part. For example, if the Freon doesn’t fully vaporize prior to entering the compressor, it will actually degrade the inside of the pump, which is made only to work with vapor and trace amounts of engine oil.

Your technician can help you determine how well your system is working, and if there are any parts that need servicing.
