Indoor Air Quality Solutions We Offer

Our experts recommend an indoor air quality (IAQ) assessment as a first step. We can help with source control, as many people add pollution to their environments because they are unaware of the consequences. Our team can identify IAQ issues, such as high humidity and pollution concentration levels. We also recommend scheduling an annual assessment, as air quality can change over time.

While HVAC systems don’t generally cause IAQ issues, they can exacerbate them. Choose a premium HVAC filter with a MERV rating as high as your system supports. Check it at least once a month, and replace it as needed.

Schedule seasonal tune-ups: cooling maintenance in the spring and heating maintenance in the fall. We’ll clean your equipment during those appointments. This includes your evaporator and condenser coils.

We also recommend scheduling a duct camera inspection every couple of years. No matter how clean a home is, dust will accumulate in the ducts over time. The average home in our region requires professional duct cleaning every three to five years. Another issue is that ducts can leak over time and need duct sealing. Without resealing them, leakage can undermine IAQ and HVAC efficiency.

For active protection against indoor air pollution, we recommend in-duct air filtration installation, along with an ultraviolet (UV) lamp. A UV light will eradicate over 99% of bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens in the home. Whole-home air purifiers can filter all the air in a house four or more times an hour.

Many of the systems we install have a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter for the main mechanical filtration. HEPA filters trap at least 99.97% of particles, including dust, pet dander, and pollen. These systems often have activated carbon as well. It effectively controls odors by adsorbing toxic gases and chemicals.

The EPA recommends targeting a relative humidity (RH) between 30% and 50%. Many homes in our area struggle to reach 50% in summer due to the high humidity. Whole-home dehumidifiers help by extracting excess water vapor from the air. If you struggle to reach 30% in winter, whole-house humidifiers help by adding water vapor to the air.

Whole-home air filtration can provide many potential health benefits:

  • More restful sleep
  • Lower stress levels
  • Higher energy levels
  • Less exposure to viruses
  • Increased cognitive function
  • Fewer headaches and body aches
  • Reduced allergy and asthma symptoms

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to several of the most common questions about air quality in homes. Contact us at your convenience with any more questions.

How can I tell if my indoor air quality is poor?

The best way to determine if you have poor IAQ is to schedule us for an in-home assessment. Common symptoms of poor air quality include stale air and persistent unpleasant odors. You may notice excessive dust accumulation and your HVAC filter clogging faster than normal. Other signs include fatigue, sleep disruption, frequent headaches, and heightened allergy symptoms.

What’s the best way to improve indoor air quality at home?

Choose your household cleaners, furnishings, and other products carefully. This way, you can avoid adding pollutants to your home.

Dust regularly, replace HVAC filters as needed, and schedule seasonal heating and cooling services. If you can’t get the right humidity level naturally, consider adding a whole-house dehumidifier or humidifier. For active pollution protection, install an in-duct air purifier, along with a UV lamp.
