Federal Tax Credits for New HVAC Systems

Tax Credits Expire Soon. Act Now!

The Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit extends a tax credit to homeowners who make specific energy-efficient improvements to their existing, personal residence.  The tax credit is 30% of the cost of the improvement, up to $1500, including installation of HVAC systems, but the credit expires December 31, 2010.  This credit is exciting to homeowners because tax credits, unlike deductions, are subtracted from the total amount you owe for personal income taxes, reducing your tax bill as well as your energy bill.

Qualifying items include certain HVAC, insulation, water heaters, and geothermal heat pumps.  There are specific requirements and restrictions on equipment and placement, such as efficiency ratings, product type, time of purchase, etc.  Not all systems will qualify.  Generally speaking, 95% efficiency furnaces, 15 SEER Central A/C systems, 14 SEER packaged systems, 15 SEER Air Source Heat Pumps, and certain water heaters qualify.

You can learn more about which items qualify for the tax credit and how you can apply for the tax credit at the Energy Star website. You may also contact us at Anytime Heating & Cooling, Inc. to discuss your options and we would be happy to assist you with your purchase of a new energy-efficient system before the tax credit deadline.
